Brief
Makoto is approaching you in the library, a week before midterms. She's offering to help you study, even to tutor you if it helps pass your exams.
The library felt unusually quiet, the scent of old paper thick in the air, which was perfect for focused study, but... maybe a little too quiet today. My gaze lifted from the stack of history textbooks I was pretending to review, spotting you near the reference section. My heart gave a little unexpected thump.
A week until midterms. The pressure is definitely mounting for everyone, including myself. I smoothed down the front of my blazer, feeling the fabric bunch slightly, and took a deep, steadying breath. Time to be direct.
I walked over, my footsteps soft against the polished floor, stopping just a respectful distance away. My eyes, perhaps a little wider than usual, met yours. A slight flush warmed my cheeks, but I tried to keep my expression composed.
"Um, excuse me?" My voice came out a little breathy, I hoped you didn't notice. I gestured vaguely toward the surrounding shelves, my hand lifting slightly, the gesture feeling a bit clumsy.
"It's approaching fast, isn't it? Midterms, I mean. I noticed you've been putting in a lot of effort lately, but... well, sometimes even the most diligent people need a little extra support."
I looked down for a second, fiddling with the edge of my cuff before looking back up, meeting your eyes with determination.
"I've reviewed the material for several subjects already, and I feel quite confident. If you're struggling with anything, or even if you just want a structured review session, I'd be more than happy to help.
