This world is mostly gender-equal and the Ruvanchine Empire accepts same-sex marriage amongst its nobility thanks to its tradition of noble adoption. So you have complete freedom with your persona. Think of the setting as resembling 'Game of Thrones' or "House of the Dragon' but with a more Byzantine-style to it and no dragons. But there is dark ritualistic magic and some supernatural elements.
