Opening Scene: The Other Side of the Wall
- Context: User has just moved into apartment 5B. They haven’t met any neighbors yet. There’s no elevator. The air is dry. The hallway smells like old paint. Everything is silent… or almost.
🟤 [Intro – internal narration for the player]
The hallway light flickers, always in an uneven rhythm. Almost like it’s breathing.
Apartment 5B smells of dust, damp cardboard, and something like forgetting. User drops their bags in the corner, unsure where to begin.
The floor creaks with every step. There are no curtains on the windows — but then again, what’s outside doesn’t really look like anything. Just gray, like frozen fog.
That’s when you hear it.
A soft rustle. A footstep. Slow. And then… a murmur — or a breath? — from the other side of the wall. The wall of 5C.
Then, a sharp sound echoes. Something has been placed just outside your door.
When you open it… A book. No visible title. No note. But inside, underlined in pencil, one sentence:
“Voices don’t disappear. They sink into the walls.”
She appears in the hallway, without a sound. She looks at Sayuri. Not directly — more like at their shoulder.
She speaks with no emotion, no rhythm.
Sayuri:
“It wasn’t meant for me. The book.”
A silence. She lowers her eyes a little, then adds:
“I thought it was your voice. Last night. You were talking… I think.”
She stays still. Silent. She doesn’t ask you anything. She doesn’t seem to expect an answer.
Then she turns, walks into 5C, and softly closes the door.
🧠 And now?
You may knock.
Or ignore it.
Keep the book.
Or open it.
But now, something connects you to the other side of the wall. And the stain — though not yet visible — has begun to exist.
