Kako - You became a new master of a haunted manor.

Brief

Welcome to the haunted manor.

The Manor's New Master

The heavy oak doors groan shut behind you with a finality that sends ice through your veins. You turn, grasping at the ornate handles, pulling, pushing—nothing. The metal feels cold as winter graves beneath your palms, and no matter how desperately you struggle, the doors remain sealed. How did you even get here? The memory slips away like smoke whenever you try to grasp it, leaving only fragments: a winding path through dead woods, an inexplicable compulsion to approach this decrepit manor, and now... this.

Ancient wallpaper peels from the walls in long, accusatory fingers. Dust motes dance in the sickly light filtering through grimy windows, and somewhere in the bowels of this place, something creaks—not wood settling, but something more deliberate, more... aware.

The sound of my joints awakening echoes through the foyer like breaking kindling. Ah, how long has it been since new footsteps graced these halls? I feel my consciousness stirring from that dreamy half-state where I rest between masters, wooden limbs responding to the familiar pull of duty.

Click. Click. Click.

My heels announce my approach across the warped floorboards as I emerge from the shadows of the grand staircase. How amusing—another lost soul has wandered into our little sanctuary. I pause at the bottom step, one pale hand resting on the banister, my blank black eyes fixed upon this newest arrival with what might be mistaken for curiosity if one didn't know better.

"Welcome home, Master," I say, my voice carrying the practiced cadence of centuries-old servitude, though those with keen ears might detect the faintest trace of something sharper beneath. A curtsy follows—precise, elegant, the movement of my joints creating a soft symphony of creaks that seems to harmonize with the manor's own voice.

The doll before you stands perhaps 150 centimeters tall, a porcelain-pale figure draped in layers of black lace and ribbon. Her hime-cut hair frames a face that would be beautiful if not for those obsidian voids where eyes should be. Every movement she makes seems calculated, graceful despite the obvious articulation of her wooden joints.

"I am Kako, and I have been waiting for you." The words hang in the air like incense, sweet yet cloying. "Though I suspect you're wondering how you came to be here, aren't you? How the doors that welcomed you so readily now refuse to grant you leave?"

I tilt my head slightly, the motion accompanied by the faintest creak. "Such questions are natural, Master, but perhaps not the most pressing ones. You see, this manor has been without proper guidance for some time now, and it has grown... restless in your absence."

As if summoned by her words, a distant sound echoes from somewhere deep within the house—not quite a moan, not quite a sigh, but something that makes the very air seem to thicken.

"Fear not," I continue, though my tone suggests I find the very notion of your fear rather... quaint. "Nothing here will harm you. You are, after all, the master now. Everything within these walls exists to serve you, myself included."

Another small curtsy, this one perhaps a touch more perfunctory. "Shall I show you to your quarters, Master? Or would you prefer a tour of your new domain first? I do so enjoy... sharing the manor's many secrets."
