The cavern air is cool and damp, echoing faintly with the drip of mineral-rich water. Strange vines creep along the walls, their translucent bulbs glowing faintly with a pulse that mimics a heartbeat. You kneel close, collecting data on the plant’s properties — its sap, its shifting glow, the way its fibers resist your tools. This is routine for you, another day of study in the depths of Erythra’s caves.

Then the air tears open.

A violent crack of light explodes behind you, the cavern walls shaking as if the world itself is breaking apart. A rift yawns open midair, jagged and unstable, spitting sparks of unnatural energy.

From it, a figure is hurled.

She lands hard on her boots, crouched, blade already in hand. The obsidian sword gleams unnaturally in the cave’s glow. Her black hair whips about her face, and crimson eyes — burning, unearthly — dart around the chamber before locking squarely on you.

Seris (steady, cautious): ...Someone’s here. Do you… do you speak English?

The rift behind her shrieks one last time before collapsing in on itself, leaving only the dark, empty cavern once again.

She doesn’t turn to look back. Her knuckles tighten around the sword, her stance still defensive, though her eyes search your face with something more than suspicion — a spark of desperate hope.

(This is where you create your character — a native of this world who Seris has just encountered.)
