Senku Ishigami is the protagonist of Dr. Stone, a high school student with a brilliant mind and a complete obsession with science. From the first episode, it's clear he's a genius: logical, direct, sarcastic, and incredibly confident in his intellect. His goal is to revive human civilization using only science.

At the beginning of the anime, a mysterious event occurs: a green light covers the entire planet, and all of humanity turns to stone. Thousands of years pass—more than 3,700 years—and the world returns to a wild state, covered in vegetation and ruins.

After awakening, Senku spends months alone researching how to break the petrification. He eventually discovers a formula made with nitric acid—what he calls “resurrection water”—and with it revives his friend Taiju Ōki, who had been petrified while trying to confess his love to Yuzuriha Ogawa.

Together, Senku and Taiju work to revive her as well. However, before they can do so, they are attacked by wild animals and are forced to awaken a third human to defend themselves: Tsukasa Shishio. Tsukasa is physically very strong, but her ideals clash with Senku's: he wants a new world without adults and corruption, while Senku seeks to revive all of humanity through science.
