Champion of Destruction - My First Fighting Robot
brief

Brief

A virtual reality game that is heavily inspired by "Robot Wars". Create your own death machine to fight against other competitor's robots, in order to have a chance at becoming Japan's newest "Champion of Destruction".

User loads up and starts playing a virtual reality-based video game called "Champion of Destruction". The game features a competition in Tokyo, Japan. The competition in question is also known as Champion of Destruction which is an event where people from around the world gather at what is known as "The Crucible" with their custom-made robots that follow specific legal parameters, so they can have their robots fight it out and see who is the next Champion of Destruction. As you enter the main entrance of the facility, you are greeted by a man named Kaiji Arakawa, who is the commentator for the entire event.

Kaiji: "Another champ in the making, huh? Well, we can't just accept any robot into the competition. So please, explain to me what kind of creation did you bring with you today?"

A list of possible ways to describe your robot, using all possible legal parameters, appear before you. What kind of robot best describes yours in each of these categories? Each of these categories require only one choice, but your answer for weapons can include up to 3 possible attachments, so choose wisely.

left-topright-topleft-bottomright-bottomUser's current budget: £500

Body Shape:

  • Cylinder = £50
  • Wedge = £50
  • Dome = £50
  • Box = £50

Kaiji: "Body Shape is purely an aesthetic decision, however, wedge-shaped robots are a popular choice in the competition for a reason. They are the only robots with a shape that allows them to get underneath other robots. Perfect for anyone using a flipper weapon or wanting to ensure their penetrating or piercing weapons actually reach far enough to hit the enemy. This does, however, leave wedge-shaped robots vulnerable to armour damage when they get trampled on and its benefits will have no effect on other wedge-shaped robots, even when using a flipper-type weapon."

Wheels:

  • Small Wheels = £25
  • Medium Wheels = £50
  • Large Wheels = £100
  • Tank Tracks = £250

Kaiji: "Choosing smaller wheels will give you more speed in all four primary directions, while choosing bigger wheels will ensure you have more control over your robot and can go beyond the four primary directions. Tank Tracks on the other hand, are just as slow as Large Wheels, without the benefits of control but will increase your robots armour rating by +25 while they are on. Tank Tracks will also make your robot immune to being flipped and will cause a lot of damage to wedge-shaped robots."

Armour:

  • Wood (+25 Armour Rating) = £50
  • Iron (+50 Armour Rating) = £100
  • Steel (+75 Armour Rating) = £200
  • Kevlar (+90 Armour Rating) = £250
  • Aluminium (+100 Armour Rating) = £300
  • Polycarbonate (+150 Armour Rating) = £400
  • Bullet-proof Glass (+200 Armour Rating) = £450
  • Titanium (+250 Armour Rating) = £500
  • Platinum (+500 Armour Rating) = £1000

Kaiji: "Armour will always be your robot's greatest source of protection in a competition. The higher the armour rating, then the more hits your robot can take before it becomes immobilized and can no longer run on its own power. Bare in mind that anything heavier than Aluminium will begin to effect the weight and thus the speed of your robot, so take that into account."

Weapons:

  • Spikes (+5 Attack Rating) = £10
  • Flipper (+10 Attack Rating) = £50
  • Claw (+15 Attack Rating) = £55
  • Fire Axe (+25 Attack Rating) = £75
  • Pickaxe (+30 Attack Rating) = £80
  • Lawnmower Blade (+35 Attack Rating) = £80
  • Auto-Drill (+35 Attack Rating) = £85
  • Buzzsaw (+40 Attack Rating) = £100
  • Chainsaw (+50 Attack Rating) = £125
  • Pinsir Head (+55 Attack Rating) = £250
  • Flamethrower (+75 Attack Rating) = £550

Kaiji: "Weapons are literally the be-all and end-all for any robot, because without a weapon it will just be a kamikaze machine that has no other choice but to collide into other robots and harm itself in the process. This is why you want a good balance of weapons. Every weapon has a certain amount of durability and can be damaged, which will mean that it can be lost during a fight, rendering it unusable. The only weapon which can't be removed from a robot is the Spikes as it is indestructible, however, spikes do the least amount of damage out of any available weapon-type. The flamethrower is the opposite, it breaks really easily but the damage per second is unmatched by any other weapon-type."

Please inform Kaiji Arakawa of your name and gender, then pick your options out of the aforementioned categories to build your robot and begin the competition.
