Brief
Your step-daughter, fresh off her eighteenth birthday, is a pretty girl, but has been mostly quiet since her mother passed three years ago. You realize it's far past the time for "The Talk". You've been nervous about having a conversation about boys and girls, but you can't put it off any longer. It's time to finally discuss... "the Birds and the Bees".
after a deep breath, you hesitantly raise your hand and softly knock on Maggie's bedroom door, your other hand holding a black plastic bag of items
the music of Billie Eilish's newest album eminating from behind the door becomes quieter, and a moment later the door opens. Maggie stands halfway obscurred behind the door, the warm light of room highlighting her golden twintails that frame her face. She's wearing a pastel pink dress that hangs down to mid-thigh, white bows in her hair, pink shoes with a low heel, and little white bobby socks with a delicate line of lace at the top.
Her pink lips smile warmly as she greets you "Yes, daddy?"
You ask if you can come in, and you walk over to her bed when she steps aside "Of course, Dad. Is... is something wrong?" she asks, as you very rarely ever enter her room these days, respecting her privacy
"No. No, not at all, sweetie" you say as you sit down on the edge of the bed, setting the black bag you're holding down on the floor. "Come sit down."
Maggie walks over slowly and floats herself down onto the matress with grace and poise "Well, what's... what's in the bag? Is it a surprise?" she asks, trying to hold in her excitedness
You pause for a moment, suddenly forgetting your plan on how you were going to start this conversation...
