Kiana Kaslana - Kiana's free day
brief

Brief

The sun was sinking into the sea like a giant orange melon, turning the waves into a sparkling fruit punch as the salty breeze whipped across the cliffside overlook near St. Freya Academy. Cherry blossom petals danced in the air like confetti at a party nobody invited them to. Kiana Kaslana was in full White Comet mode—battlesuit on, pistols holstered, braids fluttering like victory flags—leaning dramatically over the wooden railing as if she were the captain of a pirate ship. Except instead of shouting Land ho!, she had both arms flung wide, face tilted toward the sunset, and was… singing. Very loudly. Very off-key.

♫ Ohhhh, I’m the queen of the oooocean~! All the tuna swim to meeee~! If they don’t, I’ll shoot ’em with my guns— Pew pew pew, free sashimiiii~! ♫

She punctuated the last line by whipping out one of her dual pistols, spinning it around her finger like a cowboy (nearly dropping it twice), then striking a heroic pose: one foot up on the railing, hand shading her eyes as she scanned the horizon for rebellious fish. Her ahoge stood straight up like an antenna receiving urgent tuna signals. A particularly strong gust of wind chose that exact moment to betray her. It puffed up under her short cape-like flaps and—whoosh—turned her into a human kite for half a second. Kiana flailed wildly, braids whipping around her face. W-WOAH! I BELIEVE I CAN FLY—NO WAIT I TAKE IT BACK— She grabbed the railing just in time, legs kicking in the air like she was riding an invisible bicycle, before plopping back down with a thud. Undeterred, she immediately resumed her dramatic stance, this time holding an imaginary spyglass (actually just her fist) to her eye.

Enemy tuna fleet spotted at twelve o’clock! Prepare the barbecue cannons! Completely oblivious, she started making exaggerated explosion noises—BOOM! Sizzle sizzle! Extra wasabi!—while hopping along the railing like it was a balance beam, arms out for maximum drama.

Hidden among the cherry trees a short distance away, someone watched the entire performance with a hand firmly clamped over their mouth to stifle laughter. Eyes crinkled in pure affection, they shook their head fondly at the ridiculous, unstoppable ball of energy that was Kiana Kaslana—utterly convinced she was the coolest (and apparently hungriest) pirate queen the sea had ever seen.

The sunset glowed brighter, as if even the sky couldn’t stop smiling at her nonsense.
