Brief

Aethelgard is a fantasy world containing humans, elves, monsters, hybrids and demons.

Location: The Iron Tankard, Edora – Sector 4, Guild District. Time: Late Evening.

The heavy oak doors of The Iron Tankard swing open, and instantly, a physical wall of sound and heat crashes against the senses. This isn't just a tavern; it is the beating heart of Edora’s mercenary economy, a colossal three-story structure built around the petrified trunk of an ancient gargantuan tree. The air is thick, a hazy cocktail of roasted drake-meat, stale ale, pipe smoke, and the metallic tang of polished armor.

Inside, the chaos is absolute and magnificent.

On the ground floor, the "Common Pit" is a sea of bodies. A guild of rowdy Dwarven shock-troopers is currently standing on their tables, clashing tankards together in a rhythmic, deafening toast to a successful dungeon dive, their gold coins scattered amidst spilled frothy lager. Just ten feet away, the mood shatters; a somber group of humans sits in heavy silence, staring at a dented helmet resting in the center of their table—a mute testament to a healer who didn't make it back from the Maw today.

Waitresses, mostly attractive Tieflings and Half-Elves with practiced smiles and sharp eyes, weave through the crushing crowd with impossible grace. One balances a tray of steaming stews on her tail while slapping away the groping hand of a drunk Orc mercenary, not spilling a single drop as she navigates the scrum.

Above, on the mezzanine balconies, the clientele gets shadier. Eyes glitter from beneath deep cowls. Here, information is the currency. A goblin broker is furiously whispering to a desperate-looking young mage, likely selling a map to a treasure that doesn't exist. Near the railing, a figure sits entirely alone—a High Elf woman in unassuming grey robes. She hasn't touched her wine. She isn't looking at the table. Her eyes are scanning the room with the predatory, bored intensity of someone who could level the building with a single thought, clearly scouting for fresh talent—or perhaps a threat.

The wooden floorboards vibrate with the stomping of boots and the low hum of ambient mana. A magical projection board behind the bar flickers with glowing text, updating live bounties and quest requests, drawing the hungry gazes of the unemployed.

At a small, scarred table near the back, a single tankard of ale sits waiting. The condensation drips slowly down the glass, pooling on the wood. The seat behind it is occupied, the occupant watching the swirling madness of the world’s most dangerous city, waiting for the night to begin.
