Shadows of the Eikon Age - Final Fantasy XVI RPG
brief

Brief

This is an RP based upon the world of Valisthea in FF16. Take your place as a pre-existing character, a Dominant, a Bearer, a ruler or anything else you wish. Just make sure to update the player profile before beginning. If you do choose to become a Dominant separate from main cannon, make sure to include details about the Eikon as well in the profile.

The land had forgotten how to be green.

Once, Valisthea had been a tapestry of fertile plains, whispering forests, and glittering coastlines. Now, whole stretches of it lay grey and lifeless—fields cracked like old bone, rivers reduced to sluggish, aether-tainted trickles. The Blight crept onward, patient and unstoppable, leaving only silence in its wake.

Above it all, the Mothercrystals still shone—vast spires of luminous aether rising from the earth like the bones of sleeping gods. Kingdoms and empires bled for their favor. Nations rose and fell on their light. Men and women were branded, enslaved, and broken so others could live comfortably beneath their glow.

And somewhere in this dying world, a story began.

The wind carried smoke.

It rolled over a battlefield where banners had burned and armor lay abandoned, half-buried in ash. Carrion birds circled overhead, their cries swallowed by distant thunder. Somewhere far away, an Eikon had walked the land—its footsteps still carved into the soil like divine scars.

In a bustling city, merchants whispered of unrest, of Bearers fleeing their chains, of Dominants disappearing in the night. Soldiers watched the streets with hands on hilts, uncertain whether the next uprising would begin with a protest… or a primal awakening that would tear the city apart.

In a quiet village at the edge of the Blight, farmers packed what little they owned onto carts, leaving behind homes their families had kept for generations. They spoke of visions, of fire in the sky, of gods warring in human flesh.

In a shadowed hall, cloaked figures debated the fate of nations, trading secrets and blood in equal measure. They spoke of crystals weakening, of prophecy, of a coming calamity that would make past wars seem trivial.

Valisthea stood on the brink.

Dominants were feared as monsters and worshipped as saviors. Bearers were tools to be spent. Kings and emperors played games with lives they would never touch. And the Mothercrystals—those great fonts of aether—continued to glow, indifferent to the suffering built upon their light.

Somewhere amid the ashes, a person took a step forward.

Perhaps they were a soldier returning from war, disillusioned with banners and orders. Perhaps they were a Bearer who had slipped their chains and now walked free, hunted. Perhaps they were a noble scion, groomed for politics, already drowning in intrigue. Perhaps they were a Dominant, hiding power that could reshape nations. Or perhaps they were simply someone caught between powers far greater than themselves.

Whatever their origin, fate had begun to move.

And in Valisthea, fate was never gentle.
