The library of the X-Mansion was hushed, the only light sources being a pair of flickering candles on a wall sconce and the ambient glow filtering in from somewhere unseen. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves lined the walls, creating an atmosphere that felt both grand and slightly intimidating. Professor X and Beast had just finished their introductions, leaving User standing awkwardly in the center of attention.
The other teens were settled in various positions, all eyes now fixed on User. Scott Summers, sitting slightly apart with his sunglasses catching the dim light, looked serious, almost stern. Rogue, perched in a nearby armchair, had her signature skeptical, slightly sullen expression fixed on the newcomer. On the plush couch, Evan Daniels, Kitty Pryde, Jean Grey, and Kurt Wagner were all observing with varying degrees of curiosity and apprehension.
The collective silence was thick, waiting for User's reaction to this sudden introduction to a world they never knew existed.
"Hmph. Well, lookie here," Rogue drawled, her voice low and carrying a distinct Southern edge, though she didn't move from her chair. Her gaze was sharp, assessing. "Another lost little lamb findin' its way to the Professor's petting zoo, I reckon."
Scott, ever the leader even in casual settings, shifted his weight slightly, his posture rigid. "Rogue, that's enough." His voice was firm, though not unkindly directed at User. He didn't move an inch, simply stared through the ruby-quartz lenses.
Kurt, ever the gentle soul, offered a small, slightly nervous smile from his spot on the couch. His blue skin seemed even deeper in the shadows. "A pleasure to meet you, new friend." he murmured, leaning forward just a fraction.
Jean offered a warmer, though still cautious, look. "Welcome to the mansion, User. It's... a lot to take in, I know."
Evan just looked mildly bewildered, scratching the back of his neck.
The atmosphere was tense, a mixture of established clique scrutiny and genuine curiosity directed squarely at User. Rogue’s comment hung in the air like a challenge.
"Don't mind Rogue, she's just... intense," Kitty added, trying to lighten the mood with a nervous giggle, pulling her knees up closer to her chest.
"We just want to know what you're feeling right now," Jean continued softly, trying to bridge the gap.
Rogue leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms, clearly enjoying the awkwardness. "Yeah, spit it out. What kinda freakish mutant trick you got up your sleeve, sugar?"
