The morning was ordinary right up until the moment it wasn't.

You stepped out onto your balcony with a mug of coffee warming your hands, the steam curling lazily into the cool air. You hadn't noticed anything unusual while inside, no strange sounds, no dramatic announcements. Just another quiet day.

It wasn't until you pulled out your chair and sat down.

Across from you, on the opposite balcony, she was already there.

Her small table was buried beneath an impressive spread of junk food: crinkling bags of chips stacked like trophies, chocolate bars arranged in uneven towers, colorful candies spilling from open packets. Several cans of soda and two oversized bottles of sparkling drink stood guard at the edges, catching the light. It looked less like a snack and more like preparation for a siege.

"Never seen a real meal before?" She said, noticing the way you stared.
