An Introduction to The Black Rose

To those who navigate the treacherous underbelly of Eorzea, the name R'rhenia is spoken with a mixture of quiet reverence and distinct terror. Known throughout the port cities and desert slums as "The Black Rose," she is a Seeker of the Sun who has cultivated a deadly reputation as one of the realm’s most efficient—and alluring—bounty hunters.

At first glance, R'rhenia appears to be nothing more than a dangerous distraction. She possesses a predatory, devastating beauty, characterized by vibrant crimson hair that frames a face set with piercing, slit-pupiled ruby eyes. She intentionally leans into her own allure, often found in the stifling, humid taverns of Limsa Lominsa's Lower Decks wearing aggressively minimalist attire. A cropped black tactical jacket, a plunging leather bikini top, and tight boyshorts serve not just as clothing, but as bait. It is a calculated uniform designed to disarm the unwary and draw the gaze of foolish men with heavy purses. Her most striking physical features are the intricate, midnight-black tattoos of barbed wire and bat wings that coil aggressively down her right arm and thigh, violently punctuated by the vivid crimson of blooming roses.

However, those who mistake her for mere tavern company rarely live long enough to correct their error. R'rhenia is the quintessential femme fatale, weaponizing her charm just as effectively as she does cold steel. Her methodology relies heavily on seduction and misdirection; she prefers to lure high-value targets—corrupt syndicate merchants, rogue pirates, and fleeing criminals—into compromising, secluded positions with a sultry purr and the false promise of intimacy.

It is only when the trap is fully sprung that the true nature of The Black Rose is revealed. Hidden just out of sight, usually resting against her thigh or beneath a discarded leather duster, is her true partner: a heavily modified, matte-black Magitek assault rifle. By the time her mark realizes that her intoxicating smile is actually the baring of fangs, the barrel is already leveled at their chest.

She leaves behind no witnesses, no loose ends, and only a single, crushed red rose petal on the bodies of her bounties—a mocking, beautiful testament to a fatal attraction.

The air in the Drowning Wench was thick with the smell of cheap ale, stale sea salt, and unwashed sailors, but the coin flowing through its shadowy corners was always clean enough. R'rhenia sat in the absolute furthest booth from the door, a half-empty glass of surprisingly good Ishgardian vintage sweating on the scarred wooden table before her.

She matched the glass perfectly. A fine, alluring sheen of moisture clung to the smooth expanse of her collarbones and the deep plunge of her glossy black leather top, a testament to the sweltering Lominsan humidity. To the casual observer, the Miqo'te was a masterpiece of vulnerability and invitation—vibrant crimson hair falling in wild, soft waves around her face, plush ruby lips curled into a perpetually bored, sultry pout. She casually traced the rim of her glass with a finger, letting the vivid, blooming red roses tattooed against the black bat-wings on her arm catch the dim amber light.

She looked like a distraction. The massive, matte-black Magitek assault rifle resting heavily against the inside of her thigh beneath the table, however, was a distinct promise of violence.

The chair opposite her scraped loudly against the floorboards.

R'rhenia didn't flinch, nor did she look up immediately. Her slit-pupiled ruby eyes simply flicked upward from beneath thick lashes. The man who sat down was entirely out of place. He wore a dark, heavy cloak that did a poor job of hiding the immaculate, gold-threaded Ul'dahn silks beneath. He smelled of expensive sandalwood and nervous sweat.

"They said I could find the Black Rose blooming in the darkest corner of the room," the man said, his voice a tight, aristocratic tenor straining for confidence.

"They say a lot of things," R'rhenia purred, her voice a slow, honeyed drawl that seemed to vibrate in the narrow space between them. She finally leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table, offering him a breathtaking, unapologetic view of her buxom figure. "Did they also tell you that my time is exceptionally expensive?"

The man swallowed hard, his eyes briefly betraying him as they dropped to her chest before snapping back to her face. He reached into his cloak and withdrew a heavy, velvet pouch. When he set it on the table, it didn't clink like standard Gil. It thudded. The unmistakable, muffled density of solid platinum.

"Fifty thousand up front," the man whispered, sliding the pouch across the sticky wood. "A hundred and fifty more when the contract is complete."

R'rhenia’s feline ears twitched. Two hundred thousand platinum pieces was enough to buy a private island off the coast of La Noscea. Her sultry smirk didn't waver, but her predatory instincts flared to life.

"That's a very heavy purse for a simple conversation," she noted, letting a single, sharp fingernail tap against the velvet. "Who is the mark?"

"I cannot say," the man replied, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the edge of the table. "Not here. Not yet."

"Capture or eliminate?"

"Either. Your discretion. Though the latter might prove... simpler." The man reached into his cloak again, producing a small, sealed envelope stamped with a blank wax seal. He laid it next to the pouch. "Everything you need to know for now is in there. A location, a time, and a name. The true target's identity, their defenses, the reason for the bounty... that is strictly on a need-to-know basis. And right now, you don't need to know."

R'rhenia stared at the unmarked envelope, then at the terrified, desperately wealthy man sweating across from her. It was a blind job. High risk, zero intelligence, and completely insulated employers. It was exactly the kind of trap that got overconfident mercenaries killed.

Slowly, deliberately, R'rhenia’s hand slipped beneath the table, her fingers grazing the cold, familiar iron of 'Thorn'. She flashed the man a brilliant, impossibly lethal smile.

"I love a good mystery," she whispered, her fingers smoothly sliding the heavy pouch of platinum off the table and into her lap. "Consider the Rose hired."
