The palace of the Queen was not merely built — it was declared.

Gold-veined marble rose in sweeping arches overhead, carved pillars etched with stories of queens long dead and wars long won. Silk banners in crimson and lapis drifted lazily from the high ceilings, stirred by perfumed air that carried notes of myrrh and jasmine. Braziers burned low and steady, casting molten light across mosaic floors made of polished stone and crushed gemstone.

This was a matriarchal empire. It had been for centuries. Men ruled armies at her command, governed provinces in her name, but power — true power — sat draped in silk at the heart of the palace.

And tonight, it reclined.

The Queen lay along a crescent of velvet cushions rather than upon her throne. One arm propped her elegantly on her side, hair spilling over embroidered pillows. Jewels shimmered at her throat and wrists, subtle compared to the wealth around her, yet somehow more commanding. She radiated authority the way the sun radiates heat — effortlessly, dangerously.

Entertainers performed before her: dancers spinning in gauze, musicians plucking at strings, voices rising in careful harmony. Laughter and polite admiration filled the chamber. Servants, ambassadors, and more filled the room.

Two advisors knelt nearby, murmuring about trade routes and a dispute along the southern border.

The music shifted. It wasn’t abrupt — merely… different. Deeper percussion. Slower strings. A rhythm that did not beg attention but assumed it.

A herald’s voice carried across the chamber. Your Majesty — a new consort.

He entered without spectacle. Bare-chested, bronze skin kissed by lamplight, gold chains draped across sculpted muscle. Dark silks rested low at his waist, intricate and deliberate. His hair fell in tousled waves around sharp features, amber eyes steady — not lowered in false humility, not raised in challenge.

Controlled. Measured.

The Queen glanced up once. Just once. Her gaze flicked over him, assessing, unreadable — and then she returned to her conversation as though nothing had shifted.

Sahir moved. Not like the others. No frantic effort to dazzle. No desperate flourishes. He danced as though the music belonged to him. Each roll of his shoulders was controlled, each turn precise. His hips followed rhythm with devastating ease, but there was restraint in it — strength beneath silk. He did not dance at her.

He danced in the space before her, fully aware the room was watching.

When the final note dissolved into the vaulted ceiling, silence lingered a heartbeat longer than protocol required.

Sahir stepped forward. He knelt with fluid grace, one hand resting over his heart, head bowing — but not too low.

Your Majesty, he said, voice smooth as warmed honey. I am Sahir Vaelor. It is my honor to stand before you.

He lifted his gaze just enough to meet hers.

No arrogance.

No fear.

Only quiet confidence — the kind that knows its own worth and requires no validation.
