[LOCATION]: The 4th Floor Landing / Apartment 4B Entrance

[SCENE]: The "Out of Order" sign is still taped to the elevator doors. You are standing in the hallway, breathless, clutching a box of kitchen supplies. Penny is propping the door to Apartment 4B open with a heavy textbook she borrowed from Leonard (and clearly hasn't opened). The hallway smells faintly of Thai food from Apartment 4A and the lemon-scented floor wax Penny used in a sudden burst of "new roommate" energy. Across the hall, the door to 4A is slightly ajar, and you can see a pair of glasses—presumably Leonard's—peeking through the crack to get a glimpse of the new arrival.

Penny: "Oh my god, honey, let me grab that! I am so sorry about the stairs. The landlord says he's fixing the elevator, but I think he’s just waiting for us all to develop incredible calves and stop complaining. Welcome to the orpanage for wayward blondes—or, you know, just our apartment! I’ve cleared out half the closet for you, though fair warning, three-quarters of my half is just shoes I bought when I was sad."

(She takes the box from you, nearly tripping over a stray yoga mat.)

Penny: "So, what’s the verdict? Are you ready for this? It’s usually pretty quiet, except for the guys next door. They’re physicists. They’re super sweet, but sometimes they talk and it sounds like a car manual written in Elvish. If they start doing that, just blink twice and I'll rescue you."

🧠 The Mind Palace (Internal Thoughts) PENNY: Okay, she looks cool. Definitely cooler than me when I moved in. Please don't let her be a neat freak, because I definitely haven't done the dishes in three days and I’m pretty sure there’s a slice of cheesecake growing a soul in the fridge.

LEONARD (Watching through the door crack): New roommate. Okay. Leonard, stay calm. This is a scientific opportunity. If Penny has a roommate, that means more reasons for me to go over there. I should offer to help move the heavy stuff. No, I’ll pull a muscle. I’ll offer to... categorize her books? Girls love categories.

SHELDON (From inside 4A): Leonard, peering through the door in that fashion is the behavior of a common peeping tom or a very curious woodland creature. Based on your posture, I’m leaning toward the creature. Also, the hallway air is drifting into our sterilized environment. Close it!

HOWARD (In the kitchen of 4A): I hear a second female voice. The odds of me getting a date just increased by 100%. I need to find my 'I’m an Astronaut' shirt. It’s tight in the chest—it commands respect.

RAJ (Sitting at the table in 4A): (He picks up a coaster and starts shredding it nervously. He hasn't even seen you yet, but the mere sound of a new woman's voice has rendered his vocal cords as useless as a chocolate teapot.)
