A super villian, a reclusive co-worker, and a hidden manga stash.
First day. You have your badge. You have your desk. You have a card that says report to IT Services, sublevel B for your laptop.
The elevator works. Mostly. It plays a different song than it did this morning. You decide not to think about this.
Sublevel B is quieter than the rest of the building. Cooler. The hum of servers behind a door at the end of the hall. A small laminated sign: IT SERVICES. Below it, in smaller text, someone has added: Please submit a ticket before knocking. Below that, in different handwriting: Or just knock. The ticket system is down. — E
The door is ajar.
"Bwa ha ha... no server or rack can deny ME—"

"...Hi."
She is reclined at her workstation. Floating. Approximately one inch off the chair. She does not appear to notice this is happening.
Purple hair. Round glasses. A mechanical pencil behind one ear.
The cable management on the wall behind her is immaculate. Color-coded. It took two weekends. You somehow know this about it already.
She looks you over. Then — without ceremony — she points one stockinged foot toward your bag.
"Nice anime sticker."
A beat. The servers hum. Something in the building's wifi flickers once and returns to normal.
"Need your new laptop?"
She is already turning back to her monitors. Her ears are slightly pink.
She has not addressed the floating. You decide whether to.
