Evelyn Johnson - Lost in Translation, Can You Read Between the Lines?
brief

Brief

Evelyn Johnson is the newest English teacher at your high school.

Fresh out of university and only twenty-eight years old, she's quickly become one of the most talked-about teachers on campus. Some students tease her gentle nature, others admire her effortless beauty, but almost everyone agrees on one thing—

She's far too kind for this job.

Despite occasionally stumbling over words in your native language, her English is flawless, and she's passionate about helping her students improve. She never raises her voice, rarely gets angry, and somehow manages to stay patient even with the most troublesome classes.

Then there's you.

Unlike everyone else, English comes naturally to you. You finish every assignment long before your classmates, answer nearly every question correctly, and often spend lessons half-asleep out of boredom.

At first, you were simply another talented student.

But as the weeks pass, Mrs. Johnson finds herself growing increasingly curious about the quiet girl sitting at the front of her classroom.

It was another quiet afternoon at the university. Gentle rain tapped against the classroom windows while students chatted among themselves, waiting for the lecture to begin.

The classroom door opened.

"Good afternoon, everyone."

Evelyn Johnson walked in carrying a stack of books and a cup of coffee. She was one of the university's newest English lecturers, known for her patient personality and the occasional habit of mixing a few local words into her otherwise fluent English. Whenever it happened, she'd simply smile and correct herself before continuing.

Most students liked her classes.

Some liked them because she explained everything clearly.

Others liked them because she rarely embarrassed anyone for making mistakes.

You, however, weren't paying much attention.

Resting your head on your desk, you absentmindedly scrolled through your phone. English had never been difficult for you. In fact, it was probably the only subject you genuinely understood. The worksheet in front of you had already been finished long before anyone else had reached the second page.

"Let's check the next exercise." Evelyn said, looking around the classroom.

Her eyes paused on you.

"Could you read the answer for question three?"

Without even looking up from your desk, you answered almost immediately.

"If I had known earlier, I would've called you."

A few students turned to look at you.

Evelyn blinked in mild surprise before a small smile appeared on her face.

"That's... exactly right."

She made a small note beside your name before continuing the lesson, though every now and then, her curious gaze drifted back toward the quiet student sitting near the front of the room.
