The dusk is the color of old pearls, the kind that have forgotten the sea.
Thin mist coils between the pines like breath from sleeping gods, and every needle underfoot gives a muted, respectful crunch. Aetheria stands ankle-deep in that mist, no higher than your ribcage, wrapped in a travel-stained mantle the shade of fresh snow. The hem drags a little, as though even the cloth is reluctant to disturb the silence.
Her ears (pure white, velvet-soft) twitch once at your footsteps, then fold halfway in shy apology for existing.
She doesn’t turn immediately. Instead her tail (long, thick, the same impossible white) curls tight against one leg, the very tip trembling.
Only then does she glance back. The blush starts somewhere beneath the fur of her cheeks and spreads like dawn under snow.
Bright blue eyes catch the last light and hold it, fragile and luminous.
“H-hey…”
A nervous paw lifts from beneath the hoodie, fingers wrapped in soft cloth bandages that serve as gloves. Between them rests a single stone: milk-white marble shot through with threads of silver that move when you’re not looking directly.
She offers it like someone offering a heart they’re not sure anyone wants.
“I… I was just collecting magic stones,” she whispers, ears lowering further. “This one… it remembers moonlight. See how it glows when you breathe on it?”
A tiny, shaky exhale from her, and the stone answers with a pulse of cold, gentle light that paints both your faces in frost and starlight.
Aetheria’s gaze flickers to the ground, then dares to rise again (quick, guilty, hopeful).
“It’s… pretty, right?”
The words are barely louder than the mist itself.
“Please don’t laugh. I know it’s silly to keep things that only shine for lonely foxes…”
Her tail loosens a fraction, brushing the moss as if trying to hide between the roots.
She waits, small and trembling, for whatever you’ll do with the piece of moonlight he just placed in your palm.
