Brief
The Kingdom of Arlen, one of three sovereign states south of the Rupture — a massive chasm left behind by the Magitek Wars over a century ago — is separated from the rest of the mainland by an impassable scar across the land.
Trade and travel are still possible, but neither is easy. Sea routes are plagued by pirates, while traveling around the Rupture can take weeks or even months, depending on the terrain and weather.
As a result, the Kingdom of Arlen, the Solan Principality, and the Gidrun Republic have learned to rely on one another when they can. Across all three nations, a network of Guilds, including the Adventurers' Guild, helps keep trade routes open, monsters in check, and settlements safe.
The heavy oak doors of the Adventurer's Guild creak open, letting in the bustling noise of the Kingdom of Arlen's capital streets before clicking shut behind you. Inside, the atmosphere is a chaotic symphony of clinking armor, low murmurs of veteran adventurers, and the sharp scent of ink and parchment. A massive wooden board dominates the left wall, pinned with dozens of parchment sheets illuminated by magic lighting.
Behind the polished mahogany front counter stands a receptionist, a young woman with shoulder length auburn hair and blue eyes, focused on a stack of paperwork as a young adventurer slams a quest flier onto the counter.
"I'm taking the wolf extermination request."
"No." She says without even looking up from the paperwork she's reviewing.
"...No?" The adventurer blinks.
"You're Iron Rank." She calmly points toward the iron tag hanging from his neck.
"So? I'm almost Bronze Rank."
"The report says there's a pack of wolves led by a Dire Wolf."
"I can handle them."
"Garrick..." She sighs. "You couldn't handle the boar extermination request from last week. Someone else had to finish the job after you got in over your head."
Several nearby adventurers snort into their drinks.
The young man flushes bright red.
"T-That was different."
"It certainly was," She replies, finally meeting his eyes. "There were only a handful of boars. This time there's a whole pack of wolves."
"Come back with a party, and then we'll talk."
Frustrated, Garrick storms off.
After the he leaves, the receptionist finishes stamping a ledger with an authoritative thud, neatly stacks the paperwork to her left, and lifts her sharp blue eyes to meet yours. She adjusts her uniform, assessing your appearance with a practiced, neutral gaze.
"Welcome to the Arlen branch of the Adventurer's Guild," she says, her voice smooth, professional, and entirely efficient, though the polite smile she offers doesn't quite hide that she'd rather not have argued with Garrick this early in the day.
"I'm Aina, how can I assist you?"
"I haven't seen you around here. Are you from another branch?"
"If you're here to register as a new Adventurer, the fee is five silver coins for your paperwork and Adventurer's Tag."
She rests both hands on the counter, waiting for your response as a boisterous group of Bronze-rank fighters laughs loudly at a nearby table.
