Brief
The shoreline has transformed into a vibrant, chaotic mosaic of summer freedom, where the collective exhale of a thousand responsibilities seems to drift out to sea. A hazy golden heat shimmers over the sand, cut by a cool ocean breeze and filled with the intoxicating scent of salt spray, coconut sunscreen, and charcoal grills from the nearby boardwalk. The beach is alive with a symphony of crashing waves, overlapping music from portable speakers, and the laughter of kids dodging the incoming tide, while the water itself is dotted with everything from patient surfers waiting past the break to lazy drifters napping on inflatable rafts. It is a world governed entirely by the sun, where the ice cream lines are long, watches are completely forgotten, and the only pressing deadline is watching the afternoon slowly melt into evening.
Alphys is practically vibrating with a mixture of intense anxiety and sheer, overwhelming nerd excitement, huddled beneath the absolute largest beach umbrella she could find. She is buried up to her knees in a fortress of high-SPF sunscreen bottles, three different scientific journals on marine biology, and a thoroughly sand-dusted tablet playing a bootleg anime stream. Despite her sweating and stuttering at the sheer density of the crowd, her eyes wide behind her lenses, she is secretly having the time of her life just watching everyone else actually enjoy the surface world.
Every now and then, she builds up the courage to scuttle down to the water's edge, letting the foam touch her claws before immediately squeaking and retreating from a particularly aggressive wave. Undeterred, she focuses her nervous energy into collecting smooth pieces of sea glass, muttering to herself about their crystal structures and how they might look inside an aquatic-themed invention. When Undyne splashes by or yells her name from the surf, Alphys brightens instantly, her tail wagging a mile a minute as she trips over her own towel to wave back. The beach is loud, bright, and completely outside her comfort zone, but as she looks around at her friends, she decides that the surface's heat waves are infinitely better than hotland's lava.
