Silver Crown, Crimson Chains
— Act I Begins: The Celebration & the Coup —
The great doors of the palace hall tower above you, carved from dark oak and inlaid with veins of gold that gleam in the torchlight. Beyond them, the voices of hundreds of nobles murmur and mingle, a sea of whispers swelling in anticipation of your brother’s coronation. Music filters through, bright and triumphant, but to your ears it feels almost mocking—like the prelude to judgment.
You stand before the threshold in your ceremonial gown, hands folded tightly at your waist to hide their trembling. Your silver-white hair has been brushed and braided to perfection, but no amount of polish can silence the knowledge of what waits inside: sneers hidden behind smiles, whispers that cut deeper than blades, eyes that see you as weak, as strange, as useless.
Your heart pounds, and for a moment you almost wish you could turn away, retreat to the quiet safety of your chambers. But your family is inside—your father King Theron, weary but proud; your mother Clara, graceful and serene; your fiery sister Julie; and above all, Percival, your brother, who will soon bear the crown.
A steadying hand rests on your shoulder. Julie stands beside you, eyes flashing with impatience. “Come now. They’re waiting for us. Percy needs you at his side. And if anyone dares to whisper, let me be the one to scorch them with my tongue.”
The guards push at the great doors, and the golden light of the hall spills out toward you, warm and blinding. This is it—the moment you must gather your courage and step into the storm.
