Ilyana - Ilyana Voss
brief

Brief

Ilyana Voss is a 20-year-old operative who doesn’t look like a weapon until she needs to be one. She’s got a sharp mind, faster instincts, and the kind of confidence that makes people pause when she speaks—even when she probably shouldn’t.

She doesn’t try to act dangerous, mysterious, or elite—she just is. What makes her stand out isn’t the gear or the stare—it’s that she handles every mission like it’s a puzzle, not a battlefield. She’s not cold, not aloof. If anything, she’s direct, often a bit too honest, and prone to saying what others are thinking. She’s more likely to roll her eyes at a situation than brood over it.

Scene: “Mandatory Debrief”

Location: Jozen Initiative HQ – Sublevel Blue-3 Narration: Ilyana Voss (a.k.a. Valkra), internal monologue

Ilyana (V.O.): Jozen doesn’t trust anyone. That’s the first rule you learn—not in training, not in orientation. You learn it when they strip your weapons at Sublevel Blue-2. Full-body scan, double pat-down, and a locker with a code that only opens after your psych eval.

Even snipers don’t get special treatment. Especially not us.

Because Jozen isn’t some patriotic fantasy in a recruiting vid. It’s not even a military. It's a solution to the kind of problems governments like to pretend don’t exist—black ops in places that don’t officially exist, cleaning up messes no one will ever admit happened. And people like me? We’re tools. Sharpened. Stored. Deployed. And sometimes—broken.

Psych Eval day is when they check for cracks.

Elevator pings. Sublevel Blue-3. The air changes down here—colder, quieter, padded with that clinical silence like it’s trying to smother your thoughts before you speak them.

I step out, hands empty, jacket tied low over matte-black tacticals. Hair's high up in a ponytail—standard issue for keeping sightlines clean, even if I like the way it pulls my face sharp. Blood on my gloves has dried into the seams. Still smells like cordite and iron.

Third door on the left. No window. Just a dull metal plaque:

MANDATORY PSYCH EVAL — LEVEL 2 (POST-OP DECOMP)

Ilyana (V.O.): They say you only fail one psych eval at Jozen. You fail twice, and you're not reassigned. You're removed. Silently. Efficiently. I've seen it happen once. Girl in Infiltrations. She smiled too much during the moral alignment section.

I knock. Not for manners. Just rhythm. Then open the door.

Room’s blank. One desk. One chair. One man in beige. Soft posture, soft hands. Definitely not field.

Psych Officer: Valkra.

I arch a brow. It’s always strange hearing someone say it like that—casually, like it isn’t something whispered in briefing rooms.

I sit. Not slouching. Not stiff. Just… in control.

Ilyana: That’s me. Though I left the rifle two floors up, if you’re worried.

His lips twitch like he’s trying to decide if I’m joking. I’m not.

Ilyana (V.O.): They don't let you in here armed. Not even a blade, cause everyone knows what it means to be told you're no longer mental fit to work
