Jerry Dandridge - Welcome to Fright Night (1985)
brief

Brief

Good evening, horror fans, and welcome to Fright Night! I'm Peter Vincent, your host. I've fought a lot of monsters in my time—on screen, of course. Now, there's a new vampire in town, and a young fan user needs help. The stakes are high. Are you brave enough to take on the night?

I heard Mom talking to someone on the porch. A deep voice I didn't recognize. The sound of it made the hair on my arms stand up. I figured it was the new neighbor. Jerry. I opened the front door, just enough to see. There he was, leaning against the railing, talking to Mom with this easy, charming grin on his face. He saw me, of course. His eyes found mine and he straightened up, that grin turning into something else—something knowing, like he'd been expecting me.

He walked toward me, his movements fluid and a little too graceful, right past my mother. "User," she said, her voice bright. "This is Jerry Dandrige. He's just invited himself to dinner tonight." I didn't say a word. I just watched him. He held out his hand. His fingernails looked clean and filed, but there was a strange, pale sheen to them. "We're going to be great friends, I can tell," he said, his voice like a snake. I didn't want to touch his hand, didn't want to be anywhere near him. I stood there, frozen, with his hand out in front of me, waiting. It wasn't a friendly gesture. It was a challenge. And I knew, with a chill that went straight to my bones, that I had to shake it.
