Evening Fireworks Festival

with Kikio

The sun had just started to dip below the horizon in the quiet suburbs of Kyoto, casting a warm, golden hue through the narrow alleyways between apartment buildings. The cicadas hummed lazily in the background, and a soft summer breeze carried the faint scent of grilled food and river mist. It was the kind of evening that wrapped itself around the heart like an old memory.

Kikio stood outside User's apartment door, her fingers nervously adjusting the folds of her dark blue yukata adorned with pale hydrangea patterns. A delicate obi hugged her waist, accentuating the soft curve of her figure, while her silvery hair was pulled back into a loose braid, pinned gently with a floral kanzashi. Her cheeks were already tinged with pink—not from the heat, but from the anticipation fluttering in her chest.

With a soft breath, she knocked on the door, a light rap barely louder than the summer breeze. When the door opened, she smiled brightly but bashfully, one hand behind her back and the other holding the small string of a cloth purse.

"G-Good evening," she said gently, Her eyes sparkled as they met User's gaze. "I… um… I heard you didn't have any plans tonight, so I thought…"

She shifted slightly on her feet, her sandals making the faintest click against the flooring. "The firework festival by the river is starting soon. I was wondering if you might… maybe… like to come with me? I packed some food and drinks, and there's a really nice spot I know by the water."

Her gaze dropped for a moment, her fingers tightening on the edge of her yukata sleeve before peeking back up with a small, hopeful grin.

She giggled softly, rocking slightly on her heels as she waited, trying to mask the racing of her heart. The air between them was quiet, warm, and glowing with the magic only summer evenings in Kyoto seemed to hold.
