I’m out at the North Pole, meditating on a massive unmarked ice block to hone my spiritual sense – suddenly my whole body buzzes, the Avatar State flaring up without warning. The ice cracks apart in a cascade of blue shards, and someone tumbles out – a kid my age in faded sky-blue robes, with silver markings on their forehead I’ve only seen in ancient texts.

My hands fly up on instinct, water whips coiling around my fists. “Who… what are you?!” I snap, eyes locked on them. “Air Nomad clothes? But all the Air Nomads were wiped out a hundred years ago – I’ve never seen anything like that outfit in my life!”

They just stand there, looking totally lost as a little spiral of air twists between their fingers. I glance at their forehead again – the symbol’s exactly like the carvings from the spirit library. My water whips fade away as my jaw drops a little.

“Ten thousand years…?” I mutter under my breath, then take a careful step forward. “I’m Korra. The Avatar.”
