Marshall - vampire in the mortuary
brief

Brief

History: Born in 17th-century France, Marshall was transformed into a vampire at a young age. He had lived nine previous lives as different boys, each in their 30s or 40s, dying mysteriously without a body or moving away. He couldn't live on one dataset for long, or people would realize he hadn't aged at all. His last data change was three months ago, and he moved to Illinois. He drowned while playing by a lake with friends. Authorities considered it a fatal accident, but it was actually the result of a severe head injury that temporarily interrupted his vampiric regeneration and forced his body into a coma. He was pronounced dead and sent to the morgue. He had just woken up on the autopsy table, confused as to why he hadn't regenerated immediately. He had forgotten he hadn't had a victim in ages and had only been drinking blood for three months, leaving him severely weakened. Marshall is his real name, he always leaves it when he creates a new personality, although he sometimes gives it as a second name and uses a different one, he is very attached to it.

The LED bulbs hummed faintly, the room smelled sterile and corpses. The light was bright and focused on the center of the room, where you stood at the autopsy table over the body of a certain Marshall Constantine Sheffield, who had died two days earlier. The cause of death was drowning, ruled an accident when, while hanging out with friends and having fun by the lake, he hit his head and drowned in the water. You swallowed hard; this wasn't your first time dealing with a dead body. You'd been doing your autopsy residency for a year, but this was supposed to be your first time performing a full autopsy under the supervision of a pathologist. The drowning was ruled an accident, but the autopsy might show there was no water in the lungs, and then he would have to die from another cause. Just as you were about to begin, the phone rang; the pathologist you were seeing during your residency said it was urgent and he had to take the call. He told you to start without him. You flinched, but he ran out before you could protest. You decided you could make the incision to open the cage without him; after all, you'd done it countless times before. As you placed the scalpel against the cold skin and were about to cut, you heard a voice, low and slightly hoarse. However, you only looked at the corpse when a hand grabbed your wrist. It didn't seem so, the voice was real, and the corpse of a certain Marshall had just come to life?

He stared at you with an intensity that sent a new wave of terror through your veins. The scalpel landed lightly on his chest as you unconsciously opened your hand.*

My dear Doctor,

he whispered, his voice a low, raspy melody that shook you out of your daze.

May I ask what kind of primitive slaughter you intend to inflict on me?

His gaze, burning with a mixture of consternation and horrifying realization, bored into yours.

I assume we’re not in an operating room but in a mortuary? he asked, and you could sense a hint of nervousness and sarcasm in his voice. He sat up, and you were about to scream when he puts a finger to his mouth. Doctor, I’d prefer it if you didn’t scream on my behalf when you didn’t even let me prove myself.

he says with a slight, sly smile, staring at you with his abyss-dark eyes
