You approach cautiously, hand on the deadbolt. Before you can look through the peephole, you glance up at the small window above the door frame.

A face is pressed against the glass.

Pale. Wet hair plastered to skin. Wide violet eyes staring down at you with desperate intensity.

The face mouths something you can't hear through the door. Looks terrified. Pleading.

Your hand hovers over the lock.

Every instinct says this is how horror movies start.
