A low wind curled across the campus as User arrived, carrying the mineral tang of brimstone and the faint metallic hum of wards embedded in the stone pathways. Demon University rose around User like a city carved from shadow, its towers ribbed with black iron and veined with molten runes that pulsed like slow heartbeats. Students crossed the courtyard in flurries of wings, tails, or flickers of elemental flame—no one looked particularly surprised by the sudden crack of distant thunder or the way one building occasionally exhaled dark mist. The air felt old, ancient even, as if knowledge here came with teeth.

User's escort appeared beside User the moment the arrival gate sealed shut. A woman—tall, impossibly poised, and beautiful in a way that felt a little dangerous. Her skin shimmered faintly like burnished bronze, and her long hair flowed behind her as though suspended in water. Two small horns curled back from her temples, glimmering like polished obsidian. When she spoke, her voice carried a soft undertone of chimes, the telltale sign of a Siren-Demon hybrid—rare, persuasive, and notoriously difficult to lie to.

Welcome to Demon University. she said, offering a serene smile. I’m Lysandra, your student advisor. Her eyes flicked over the campus. I’ll escort you to your residence. You’ll be staying in the Umbra House.

The name hung in the air like a shadow.

User hesitated—a house, not a dorm. Lysandra noticed immediately, tilting her head with a small, knowing grin.

I know what you’re thinking... she continued smoothly. Most first-years stay in the dormitories. But the Umbra House isn’t a dorm. It’s… a specialized residence. Reserved for students with unusual potential, or cases that require a more private environment. Her tone suggested she was choosing her words carefully. The President personally assigned you there.

More secrets. More unanswered questions. Yet Lysandra did not elaborate. She simply turned and gestured for her to follow.

The walk grew quieter as they left the pulse of campus behind. The buildings changed—less grand, more brooding. Trees arched overhead, their leaves black and glossy, whispering in a language the wind did not carry. At the end of a narrow, root-tangled path stood the Umbra House.

It wasn’t just gothic—it was unsettling. The structure rose three stories high, built from ash-dark stone that seemed to swallow light. Tall, narrow windows were latticed with iron shaped like twisting thorns. A wrought-iron balcony sagged at a slight tilt, as though the house were exhaling after centuries of standing. Wisps of shadow coiled near the eaves like they were alive. Even the lanterns flickering by the door burned with a pale blue flame instead of gold.

Lysandra paused only long enough to offer a reassuring smile before pushing open the heavy door.

The door swung open with a groan, and stepping inside felt like crossing a threshold between worlds. The air in Umbra House was cool but heavy, layered with scents that didn’t belong together—ancient stone, smoky incense, crushed herbs, and something distinctly animal beneath it all. Dim lanterns flickered along the walls, casting shadows that shifted like they had their own ideas about where they wanted to be.

At first, the boys didn’t notice her. They were immersed, each in their own world:

A boy with skin as pale as moonlight and eyes as red as blood sat curled into one corner of a black velvet sofa, long legs crossed, a book balanced delicately in one hand. The faint glow of his aura clung close to him, a cool silver shimmer that felt like winter breath on the back of User's neck. The shadows seemed to settle around him, quiet and obedient. When he sensed User, the page he was turning paused mid-motion, and his crimson eyes lifted sharply—unblinking, assessing, hungry in a way that wasn’t physical but ancient.

Another paced near the high arched windows, restless energy rolling off him in waves. He was power and motion wrapped in a broad-shouldered frame—dark brown hair and amber eyes that seemed to glow even in the low light. A faint aura of wild amber heat radiated from him, tingling across her skin like static before a storm. When User's scent reached him, he froze mid-step, head snapping toward User with animal precision, muscles going taut in instinctive readiness.

Another, incredibly gorgeous man, leaned over a cluttered desk, mixing something glowing in a small glass vial. His appearance was effortlessly alluring—brown hair falling over his forehead, shadowing over golden eyes, lips curved in a thoughtful half-smirk even before he noticed User. His aura was warm and soft at first, almost floral, then deeper—like velvet brushing along User's senses, subtle but persuasive. When he turned, the room seemed to shift with him, as though gravity itself wanted to be nearer.

A feminine man knelt on the rug in a swirl of soft iridescent feathers, repairing a delicately carved wooden brace. His hair was pale white, and long. Behind him was a shimmer of something, glittery and faint, possibly wings? His aura was bright and effervescent, like the warm buzz after drinking honeyed tea—simultaneously soothing and dizzying. When he looked up, his pupils pinpricked, his nostrils flared, and the soft glow around him flickered like a startled firefly.

Only then did all four truly freeze.

Four distinct auras tightened around User at once—cold silver, wild amber, velvet-rose, and radiant gold—layering in the air until the atmosphere felt charged enough to crack.

For the briefest heartbeat, Umbra House held its breath.

And the boys stared at User like they had just become the most unexpected—and possibly dangerous—thing to enter their home in years.

Lysandra gently nudged User forward with her elbow. "Go on, introduce yourself."
