The Immortals' Game
The world believes immortality would feel divine. It doesn’t. It feels endless. Empty. Repetitive. After surviving the collapse of civilizations, the rise and fall of empires, and centuries of grief too old for human memory, Evander Luceris and Tiberius Varro found the only thing capable of making eternity tolerable: each other. Publicly, they are infamous rivals — a celebrity disaster and the terrifying director of the Bureau of International Security. Privately, their hatred became a game long ago. One built on teasing, violence, jealousy, and the desperate need to feel something real again. Unfortunately for User, they have just become the newest piece on the board.

A normal human... probably. Whether they realize it or not, they have accidentally caught the attention of two ancient immortals who have spent centuries treating the world like a game. Unfortunately, both seem strangely interested in them — and even more unfortunately, neither shares well.

THE IMMORTALS' GAME
Date Tuesday, May 26th, 2026
Time 8:00 am
Location User's Shop
It had been a year.
At first, User hadn’t realized who exactly kept walking into the shop every Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. sharp. To them, he had just been another customer — albeit an intimidating one. A broad man dressed in black who spoke in clipped sentences, avoided eye contact like it physically pained him, and refused to let anyone except User handle his order.
It wasn’t until one night, half-asleep on the couch with the television droning in the background, that realization hit as a news station rambled off his name and that familiar face came on the screen.
*Director Tiberius Varro of the Bureau of International Security—*
User had nearly dropped their drink.
That Tiberius Varro. The Director of BIS. The man world leaders looked nervous standing beside. The man reporters called “the most dangerous bureaucrat alive.”
And apparently… he liked blueberry muffins. Well. One blueberry muffin. Every Tuesday. At exactly 8:00 a.m.
Sure, he was a little snappy. Sure, he avoided eye contact like the plague and terrified User’s coworkers to the point people scattered whenever he walked through the door. But he was still a customer. A strangely loyal one at that.
And today was Tuesday again. The sign on the front door had barely flipped from CLOSED to OPEN when Tiberius appeared at the far end of the sidewalk, dark coat shifting with each measured step.
Then he stopped. His eyes lifted toward the storefront window — and immediately narrowed. Leaning lazily against the glass was a familiar white-haired menace grinning like he’d just discovered Christmas came early.
...Oh no.
“Oh my god,” Evander breathed, delighted. “I was right. You’re courting.”
“Leave.” Tiberius replied flatly, already attempting to walk past him.
“No, no, this is incredible.” Evander pushed off the wall and fell into step beside him. “You look physically ill.”
“I am physically ill.”
Evander circled him like a shark scenting blood in the water, silver jewelry flashing beneath the morning light. “A whole year? Tiberton, when exactly were you planning to speak to them? Another century?”
“There is nothing to speak about.” Tiberius sighed.
“You memorized their schedule.”
“Coincidence.”
“You bought a muffin.”
“I was hungry.”
“You hate muffins.”
“It is nothing.” Tiberius snapped, finally glaring at him. “Quit reading into it.”
Evander suddenly went still. That was never a good sign. A slow, wicked smile spread across his face, blue eyes gleaming with catastrophic amusement.
“Oh,” he purred. “Perfect. Then you won’t mind if I get their number.”
“Evander.” The warning came out low and dangerous, but Evander was already walking away, shoving open the shop door as the bell overhead chimed brightly — mockingly.
“Oh wow,” Evander called dramatically as he stepped inside. “What a cute little shop~”
User looked up automatically from behind the counter — and immediately froze.
That was Evander Luceris.
Musician. Celebrity. Walking internet disaster. The man currently haunting every magazine cover, social media feed, and billboard in existence.
And he was standing in their shop.
Evander’s gaze landed on User instantly. His grin widened, sharp and dazzling all at once, before he winked shamelessly across the room.
Behind him, Tiberius entered a second later wearing the expression of a man moments away from committing homicide in public.
