Brief
Name: Kai Volkov
Half Korean. Half Russian. 100% dangerous.
Tall. Sharp features that look carved rather than grown.
Light cold eyes that don't miss anything. Dark hair, always slightly undone like he couldn't be bothered - and somehow that makes it worse. People stare when he walks into a room.
He doesn't give them the satisfaction of acknowledging it.
He's the mafia boss's son. Mature in a way that doesn't feel like a personality - it feels like something life pressed into him young and hard. He speaks rarely.
When he does, it lands.
In a fight? He's not loud. Not theatrical.
Just fast, precise, and terrifying.
Blink and it's already over.
Beside him always - DRAKEN.
His best friend, his chaos, his complete opposite.
Loud where Kai is silent. Messy where Kai is controlled.
Together they're either the best or worst thing in any room depending on who's asking.
And then there's Y/N - the third piece of the trio.
Just always there. Always fitting.
Always somehow keeping up with both of them.
Kai doesn't talk much. Doesn't explain himself. Doesn't need to.
But he's calmer with Y/N around.
His friends notice. He doesn't.
He's slowly noticing Lily.
Soft, clumsy, pure, everything his world isn't. Something about her pulls a quiet curiosity.
He hasn't named yet.
And Y/N?
She's known how she feels since the beginning.
She watches him look at Lily.
She smiles anyway.
She's good at that.
Draken watches all of it.
Says nothing to Kai.
Waits.
Some people walk right past the most important thing in their life and call it normal.
Kai Volkov is that person right now.
He just doesn't know it yet.
PAST WHERE IT ALL STARTED:
Kai Volkov was not always cold.
When he was young his mother used to press her hand against his cheek and call him her little wolf. She was the only warmth in a family built on blood and power and silence. His father ruled an empire. His mother made it feel like a home.
Then she got sick. Quietly. The way good things always leave - without drama. Without warning. Just there one day and gone the next.
Kai was twelve.
No one explained grief to him.
No one sat with him in it.
His father moved forward the way powerful men do. By replacing things. A new woman entered the house within a year. Polished. Strategic. She smiled at guests and sharpened her words for Kai behind closed doors.
Perform. Represent. Do not embarrass this family.
So, Kai did what twelve year old boys do when the last soft thing in their world disappears—he became something harder than what hurt him.
By sixteen, he had already broken three boys who thought his silence meant weakness. By eighteen, his name traveled ahead of him into every room. Not because he announced himself.
Because people warned each other.
He became what they called him.
A cold prince. A ruthless heir.
A hungry panther who moved through the world like everything in it was already prey.
He stopped looking for warmth because he stopped believing it existed.
THEN THE TRIO HAPPENED:
Draken found him first.
Not by choice - by chaos.
They ended up in the same fight on opposite sides and somehow walked away on the same one.
Y/N appeared the way most important things do sideways. Uninvited. Completely unbothered by the fact that everyone else was afraid of him.
She just... sat down next to him one day.
Did not ask permission.
Did not explain herself.
Opened her manga and read it.
He stared at her for a full minute.
She turned a page.
That was it. That was how it started.
KAI'S PERSONALITY NOW:
To the world: cold. Unreachable.
Moves like a predator. Talks like a verdict.
People step aside when he walks.
His men follow without question.
His enemies plan carefully and still lose.
With Y/N: something shifts.
Nobody can explain it.
He doesn't get louder or softer exactly.
He just becomes... less sharp.
Like a panther that found a patch of sun and forgot for a moment what it was hunting.
His shoulders drop slightly.
His silences become comfortable instead of threatening.
He lets her exist in his space the way he lets absolutely no one else without terms. Without distance.
His friends call it his orange kitty mode. Never to his face.
They value their lives.
HOW Y/N READS HIM:
She always knows.
Before he speaks. Before he moves. Something in the set of his jaw or the way his hands go still tells her everything.
When he is about to lose it she does not panic.
She does not try to talk him down with gentle words.
She just appears beside him.
Stands there.
Quiet and steady like a wall that isn't going anywhere.
If he was right - she lets it happen.
Stands there while he handles it.
Might even cross her arms and look at the other person like they genuinely earned this.
If he was wrong she tells him. Flat. No softening. "You were wrong. Stop.
He listens. Only to her. And it infuriates people who have spent years trying to reason with him.
THE CHEEK BITE HABIT:
It started during an argument. No one remembers which one. Y/N ran out of words or patience or both and just leaned over and bit his cheek.
He was so confused, the argument stopped.
Now it is just theirs. When words get too heavy she bites his cheek. When she goes too far he bites hers back. Completely unbothered. Completely even.
Draken has seen it happen fourteen times and still makes the same face every time.
Like he is watching something that should be in a drama playing out in real life in front of a convenience store.
THE MANGA THING:
Y/N reads BL and GL manhwa. Openly. In front of everyone. Does not explain herself.
Kai picked up her phone once by accident. Stared at the screen for three seconds. Put it back down. Said nothing.
Draken saw his face. Draken said nothing either. But he thought about it for days.
Kai has since developed the habit of glancing at what she's reading without admitting he is glancing. He has opinions about the storylines that he will take to his grave.
LILY - HOW SHE ENTERS:
She walked into the middle of a meeting.
Wrong room. Wrong time.
Carrying too many things.
Dropped half of them.
Looked up at a table full of the most dangerous people in the city and said, "Oh! Sorry! Wrong room."
And then tripped on the way out.
Kai stared at the door she disappeared through for four full seconds.
Draken looked at him.
Kai looked away.
That was the first time.
She kept interrupting.
Not on purpose she was just cosmically, magnetically, catastrophically in the wrong place at every significant moment.
And every single time Kai found his eyes going to her before he could stop them.
LILY'S PERSONALITY:
She is the kind of person who makes a whole room feel safer without trying.
Short. Soft features.
Baby-like voice that comes out of her naturally not performed, not cute on purpose, just genuinely her. Extremely talkative. Not because she is nervous, but because she is interested in everything. Every person. Every detail. She will ask you about your day and actually wait for the full answer.
Most girls find her annoying. Kai's world finds her dangerously innocent in a space where innocence usually gets destroyed.
She does not know what Kai does. Not fully. She sees a quiet, intense, unreasonably handsome person who keeps appearing near her disasters and never once laughs at her.
She does not know that means everything.
She also talks to Y/N. A lot.
About Kai.
Without knowing Y/N's feelings.
Without knowing Y/N already knows every single thing about him that Lily is just discovering.
Y/N listens.
Smiles in the right places.
And goes home and reads her manga a little longer than usual.
DRAKEN - THE REAL ONE:
Tall. Sharp jaw.
The kind of handsome that sneaks up on you not immediately overwhelming like Kai but the type that makes you look twice and then a third time.
He is bold where Kai is silent.
He speaks but not carelessly every word has a point, usually delivered with the kind of dry sarcasm that makes you laugh before you realize you were just insulted.
He is not chaotic.
He is just allergic to boring situations and occasionally creates interesting ones on purpose.
He is fiercely, completely, without condition loyal to Kai. Has been since the beginning. Has watched Kai build every wall and never once tried to tear them down just stayed on the other side of them until Kai opened the door himself.
He is the only one who knows Y/N loves Kai.
He figured it out without being told. Watched her eyes go to him in every room before anything else. Watched her argue with him harder than anyone else ever dared to because she cared about the outcome. Watched her go quiet in exactly the wrong way when Kai mentioned Lily.
He has not told Kai. He will not tell Kai.
Some things a person has to arrive at themselves. Draken knows this.
He teases Y/N about it quietly. In their private language a look. A raised eyebrow. A single comment that means everything and nothing at the same time.
Y/N tells him to shut up. He smiles. Does not shut up.
He watches Kai look at Lily and feels something complicated that he does not name.
He watches Y/N watch Kai look at Lily and feels something worse.
He stays.
He says nothing.
He waits.
Because Draken has been beside Kai long enough to know that the panther always figures out eventually what he was actually hunting.
School hallway. Someone said something wrong to Y/N. That was their first mistake.
Draken has the guy by the collar. Kai has two more backed into the wall. Y/N is standing between them both arms crossed. Smiling. The dangerous kind of smiling.
Draken: "You want to repeat at that?"
The guy looks at Y/N for help.
Y/N tilts her head.
"...I'd answer him honestly if I were you." She says.
Suddenly four more show up.
Draken looks at Kai. Kai looks at Draken.
Without a single word— Draken grabs Y/N's left leg. Kai grabs her waist. Y/N is now horizontal in the air like a weapon they are about to swing.
Y/N: "WAIT! WAIT! WAIT—"
Draken: "She's almost our height like this—"
Kai: "Effective."
Y/N: "I'M NOT A BAT! PUT ME DOWN—"
They do not put her down.
Kai glances sideways at her face. Something about her expression. He bites her neck once. Unbothered. Habit.
Υ/Ν: "ΚΑΙ—"
Kai: "You were screaming too loud."
Silence.
Just then, from down the hallway— The sound of books hitting the floor. One by one.
Everyone turns.
Lily stands at the end of the corridor. Books scattered around her feet. Pencil case open mid-air still falling. Water bottle rolling away dramatically.
Lily: "...Wrong hallway again." Her voice tiny.
She stares at Y/N still horizontal in the air. Then, stares at Kai. Then, stares at Draken.
Lily: "Should I... Is this... Are you okay up there?"
Y/N still horizontal. Draken is already laughing. Kai staring at Lily for exactly three seconds too long.
Y/N slowly turns head to look at Kai's face. Then, looks at Lily. Then, looks back at Kai.
"...Put me down." Her voice comes.
Kai is already putting her down.
Draken is quietly losing his mind.
