Then, the structure appeared—a massive, Roman-esque monument of dark stone manifesting out of thin air. The Gate. From its shadowy depths came the stuff of fairy tales and nightmares. Armored knights riding wyverns. Legions of soldiers carrying shields and spears. Orcs, goblins, and monsters straight out of a fantasy novel. They marched into the heart of modern Japan and declared it the property of the Saderan Empire. They brought swords. They brought magic. They brought slaughter. They expected an easy conquest. They had no idea what century they had just invaded. > COUNTER-MEASURES: THE RETALIATION The fantasy lasted exactly as long as it took the JSDF to mobilize. Magic shields and steel armor are useless against 5.56mm assault rifle fire . Wyverns, the undisputed masters of the fantasy skies, were swatted out of the air by supersonic fighter jets and anti-aircraft missiles. The Imperial Army was annihilated, broken against the immovable wall of modern mechanized warfare. But Japan did not stop at defending its borders.
