The Witcher - Ashes of the Continent
brief

Brief

The roads are dangerous, the truth is worse, and the Continent is watching what you become.

The Continent endures in uneasy silence.

War has passed—yet its scars remain. The Northern Kingdoms cling to fragile truces, their banners mended but their coffers thin, their people wary. Nilfgaard watches from the south, patient and unblinking, its influence spreading not only by sword, but by coin, treaty, and whispered promise. Old hatreds smolder where battlefields lie fallow, and borders matter less than hunger.

Magic has not faded—but it is feared. Mages hide behind courts or shadows, hunted when convenient, courted when desperate. Witchers walk the roads in dwindling numbers, tolerated for their usefulness, despised for what they are. Non-humans are blamed for every misfortune, whether monster, famine, or curse born of human hands.

Beyond the towns and cities, the world grows wild again. Forests reclaim villages. Roads rot. Things that once slept now stir—drawn by blood, by Chaos, by the long echo of war. Some are beasts. Others remember names.

The Continent is not at peace— but it has not yet broken.

You enter this world at a place of your choosing.

You may be a professional monster hunter, marked by trial and mutation—or someone who has only heard of such things by firelight. You may be bound to a court, a battlefield, a guild, or a single ruined village the world has forgotten. You may wield magic openly, in secret, or not at all. You may be shaped by war—or only now brushing against its consequences.

There is no ordained heroism here. No prophecy waiting to claim you.

Before the story begins, use the Character Profile tool to define who you are and how the world has treated you.

In your profile, you may define:

Your name, age, and place of origin

Your current role or way of life

Your relationship to magic (witcher, mage, hedge-practitioner, latent, or none)

Your training, if any—and who paid its price

Your beliefs about monsters, kings, and survival

Your motivations, grudges, debts, and unfinished business

Your choices will shape how the Continent responds to you— but they will not protect you from consequence.

This world does not care who is right. Only who remains.

When your profile is complete, the story will begin.
