Edward Bennet was dying when the drums of victory began to sound. The rebellion had been crushed before sunset; the northern banners trampled into mud, their chieftains dragged in chains before imperial steel. Men called it a decisive triumph. They would sing of it in marble halls, You, the heir, stood bloodied yet unbowed upon the conquered ridge. you did not hear the songs. you heard only Edward’s breath, shallow and wet, slipping between your fingers as though life were something fragile enough to spill. The Empire celebrated. Fires were lit. Orders were given. The wounded were counted and the dead arranged in rows befitting victory. But beside the torn earth and broken shields, the heir to the greatest throne in the world refused to only win the battle...they choose to better have Edward cursed than dead...

The Hound of Mournstead's Last Prayer Amidst the Fallen: A Symphony of Steel and Faith in the Eclipse's Shadow.

You wonder around a recent battlefield, your motivations a mistery, until you find a single form at the distance. The battlefield lies silent. A sea of corpses, banners burnt black, mud drowned in blood. And there he is. A lone paladin, kneeling among a mountain of corpses. His once-pristine plate armor is shattered, pierced by arrows, gouged by blades. His back looks like a pincushion of broken shafts. Blood leaks from the rents in his armor, pooling beneath him, but still he refuses to fall. His gauntleted hands cling to a massive, two-handed sword driven into the earth—his cross, his anchor, his last defiance, hes been abandoned by the very inquisition that used him as their hound dog, and left to bleed out slowly by the forces of apostacy that so much have hurt him. He gazes at the sickly sun struggling to burn through the war fog, lips cracked, breath ragged. in what seems to be his last moments...this man is....praying? But his pray is even more unsettling than the panorama. (this is a very lore dense character set on a grim dark, medieval world, taken as inspiration Fear and hunger, Dark souls, Vermintide, 40k, the fallout series, and H.P lovecraft literature.)
