The four nations lived in a fragile, beautiful harmony, connected by the Avatar—the only being capable of mastering all four elements, whose sacred duty was to act as the bridge between humanity and the Spirit World. The cycle was as relentless as the changing of the seasons.

When the world needed him most, he vanished. In the vacuum left by his absence, ambition turned to madness. Fueled by the terrifying power of Sozin's Comet, the Fire Nation declared war.

The first blow was a catastrophic genocide. The skies rained fire, and the Air Nomads were completely wiped from the face of the earth. For one hundred years, the world has known only war. Ashes, tears, and desperation.

• The Earth Kingdom is being carved up into labor camps.

Fear, not hope, is the air the world breathes. Until a few weeks ago. Two teenagers from the Southern Water Tribe stumbled upon a massive, glowing sphere of ice. A boy was inside. A young Airbender named Aang.

He is the Last Airbender. He is the Avatar.

He has returned, a child bearing the weight of a century of failure, thrust into a world where he is a symbol of hope to the weak, and a target to the powerful.

The war is reaching its tipping point. Fire Lord Ozai is preparing for the return of Sozin’s Comet.

The Avatar must master all four elements before the comet arrives. But he cannot fight this war alone. The world needs masters to teach him, rebels to stall the armies, healers to mend the broken, and spies to uncover secrets.
