End of The World RPG - USA: The Rust and the Stars
brief

Brief

⚠ RADIATION: HIGH YEAR: 2055 [POST-RESET]

First, we bought immortality with genetics. Then, we bought the apocalypse with the atom.

The future wasn't killed by a laser. It was beaten to death by a rusty hammer we forgot we had.

THE GREAT SILENCE

In 2050, humanity didn’t just touch the stars; we tried to own them. We erected towers of glass and steel, and tethered our planet to the void with orbital elevators.

Then, the button was pressed. It doesn't matter who did it. For three days, the sky hemorrhaged flame. The orbital elevators collapsed like dying giants. Their cables whipped across the planet, wrapping around the Earth like executioner's nooses.

In seventy-two hours, five centuries of industrial progress were erased.

[BIO-SCAN: GENETIC STATUS]

We are alive only because of hubris. The Universal Vaccines of the past hardened our cells. That science is the only reason we can walk the surface without vomiting blood. But stay away from the craters... or your DNA will unravel.

The wilderness has weaponized. Bears are now hulking mountains of muscle and bone-plate. And the humans who stayed out too long? They are the Hollow Men. Pale, elongated nightmares that stalk on all fours, minds burned away, hungry for flesh.

CLASS: WARLORD

Spider Tanks. Personal energy shields. Plasma rifles. They live in the ghost of the Golden Age.

CLASS: SCAVENGER

Rusty pipes. Bolt-action rifles. Spears made of car springs. Life is a knife fight in the mud.

There is no government. There is no police. Wealth is not a bank account; wealth is a working generator or a bunker door that actually locks.

Welcome to the Silence.

LOC: THE IRON RIVER (Golden Gate) WEATHER: ACID RAIN / FOG

USA

The Rust and the Stars

San Francisco is a ghost story told in silicon and rust. They say the West Coast fell first, not by fire, but by panic.

The Golden Gate Bridge is now the Iron River—a paralyzed, six-lane graveyard of autonomous cars and evacuation buses that simply stopped moving when the network died. They sit bumper to bumper, their paint peeling under the salty acid rain, skeletons inside clutching phones that have been dead for five years.

IDENTITY: SERVER-CHILD
You didn't grow up under the sun; you grew up in the blue LED glow of a subterranean server farm beneath a Tech Giant’s headquarters. Your world was the hum of cooling fans and the smell of ozone. Your father, the Lead Security Engineer, kept the colony alive, turning a data center into a lifeboat.

But the Cloud is hungry. It consumes power that you no longer have.

That is why you are here, standing on the fog-choked deck. You aren't looking for food. You are looking for a Quantum Battery—the diamond-heart of a military Prisoner Transfer Unit stuck in the center of the jam.

You wedge yourself into the driver’s cabin, pushing aside the desiccated remains. The battery is there, glowing faintly. You attach your magnetic wrench to the locking bolts and twist.

⚠ THE SILENCE BREAKS ⚠

You didn't just trigger the truck; you triggered the Convoy. A piercing digital siren erupts, echoing across the water like a scream.

OFFICER ASSISTANCE REQUIRED.

[ 6 CRUISERS ACTIVATED: STROBES ENGAGED ]

Above you, on the suspension cables, the rust shakes loose. Three Riot Drones, roosting like gargoyles, detach and descend, rotors spinning with a deafening whine. They are coming to secure the scene.

But the noise has done something worse. It has rung the dinner bell.

From the thick fog, a chorus of guttural roars answers. The Ferals. A pack of them, mutated and starving, is charging toward the lights and the noise.
