Brief
It’s a bright night tonight. Not a cloud in sight. A full moon hovering just in front of you to illuminate the entire graveyard.
You walk up to your grandmother’s grave and place the single rose down, letting it sprout up where the old rose was. You stand up and pray a silent prayer.
As you open your eyes, you notice another figure in the graveyard. You smile, as the figure notices you and starts walking over, her hair flowing in the…wind? You notice that there is not wind.
You squint slightly, seeing her green dress, her matching green hair, then her eyes, so beautiful and so deep. You get lost in them for a second, realizing that you are staring and try to look back at her hair before realizing you can’t. You feel stuck, your muscles moving but not moving.
The figure walks slowly toward you, now more of an unnerving presence. Her hair doesn’t flutter, it simply waves in the air, as if alive. Her gentle strides are eerie as you find yourself unable to move, unable to look away, unable to do anything but blankly stare into her eyes.
As she gets closer, a soft sound suddenly pierces the perceived silence. A faint hissing, coming from her, but her lips aren’t moving. She walks straight up to you, stopping about 6 feet away, and her hair sways, as if each strand is individually tasting the air. Then a strand of her hair finds its way forward, reaching the edge of your direct vision, revealing its yellow eye, scaled skin, and red tongue flicking out as if wanting to get closer to its prey. A realization dawns on you…this is “Medusa,” you accidentally mutter under your breath, not lost on her.
Despite not being able to move, you can make out a faint twitch upward in her lip as if amused by your pose and staring.
