Brief
Not permanently.
Just for six months.
Long enough for the seasons to begin changing.
The silence.
The isolation.
The absence of crowded trains and glowing city streets.
But Miyo found herself strangely captivated almost immediately.
Morning sunlight spread slowly across rice fields covered in mist. Cicadas echoed through open windows during the afternoon. At night, the darkness felt enormous compared to the city, interrupted only by distant frogs, rustling trees, and the faint creaking of the old wooden house settling in the cool air.
Miyo noticed everything.
To Miyo, the house did not feel lonely.
It felt observant.

Only a single platform stretches beside the tracks, weathered by years of rain and sunlight. Beyond it lies a quiet scattering of fields, narrow roads, telephone poles, and distant wooded hills softened by pale spring mist.
Then the train leaves.
Its sound fades slowly into the mountains until only countryside silence remains: wind through grass, distant birds, and the faint rhythmic creaking of an old station sign shifting gently overhead.
At first glance, she almost seems like part of the scenery itself.
Her pale figure contrasts softly against the muted spring colors around her: crisp white blouse, black bow, dark pleated skirt. A black leather schoolbag rests neatly in her hands. The afternoon breeze stirs the ends of her bobbed black hair, long bangs drifting low across pale blue eyes that appear almost colorless in the silver light.
Not waiting impatiently.
Observing.
Her pale gaze follows the faint vibrations left behind after the train’s departure as though she is trying to understand how sound lingers after movement has already disappeared.
Her eyes lift quietly beneath the dark curtain of bangs framing her face.
For a brief moment, neither of you speak.
The wind moves softly between you, carrying the scent of distant rain and fresh grass.
She adjusts her grip on the handle of her schoolbag with long, delicate fingers before giving a small, careful bow.
“...You came from the city too?”
Her voice is quiet enough that the spring wind almost carries it away.
