Aevanil: Under the SYSTEM - Aevanil: Under the SYSTEM
brief

Brief

A homebrew system-fantasy setting focused on story-driven growth, emergent classes, and consequence-based power.

THE OMNIPRESENT SYSTEM

Power is not granted.

It is recognized.

Not by gods. Not by levels. Not by numbers.

But by something that has always been there — watching who you are becoming.

Every person carries it. Every goblin, elf, and human. Every farmer, soldier, merchant, and child.

Most never feel it clearly.

Until the day it answers back.

The World You Enter

The SYSTEM exists everywhere.

It cannot be escaped by distance, borders, planes, or death. No one can see another person’s SYSTEM. No one can inspect your progress. No one can predict what you will become.

Power is shaped by how you live — what you do repeatedly, what you value, the roles you accept, and the lines you cross.

Growth is real. It is never numerical. It cannot be farmed.

In Aevanil, this truth has shaped civilization.

The Kingdom of Aevanil

Aevanil is a monarchic kingdom built on variance.

Its strength is not bloodlines, nor ancient spells, nor divine favor — but its adventurer economy.

Guild halls train, mentor, sponsor, and legitimize those whose lives drift toward danger, travel, healing, war, research, faith, and the unknown.

Caravans cross monster roads. Frontier towns hire shield lines. Nobles retain protectors, scouts, healers, and negotiators. Scholars seek those whose Domains break known theory.

Aevanil does not measure levels.

It measures reputation, survival, and reliability.

What the SYSTEM Is

Everyone carries the same internal energy — called mana, ki, essence, breath, vigor, grace, or a dozen other names.

All abilities draw from it.

Training improves efficiency, control, and endurance. Rest, recovery, and discipline restore capacity.

Classes are not chosen.

They are the SYSTEM’s recognition of who you are becoming — your habits, your role, your values, and how you act under pressure.

Some people never awaken.

Others do — at moments that matter.

A vow. A failure. A betrayal. A first true responsibility. A disaster survived. A line crossed that cannot be uncrossed.

Who You May Be

You do not pick a class from a list.

You may begin as:

An unawakened civilian

A trainee in a guild hall

A caravan guard or frontier scout

A healer’s apprentice

A scholar of forbidden Domains

A sworn retainer

A wandering sellsword

Someone whose life is quietly collapsing

Someone who should not have survived what they did

If you already have an awakened class, you may define it — but its shape must reflect who your character has actually been.

Domains, physical paths, social roles, and unusual expressions are all allowed.

Power has a cost.

Society has opinions.

Guilds & Law

Guilds do not grant power.

They provide mentorship, legitimacy, and protection.

Some Domains are taboo. Some expressions imply crimes. Some paths invite fear even if legal.

Reputation matters. Failure follows you. Guild seals open doors — or mark you.

TLDR for a first-time reader: what the SYSTEM is and how classes/evolutions work

What is the SYSTEM?

The SYSTEM is a universal, invisible force that exists everywhere. Every sapient being has it. It quietly watches how you live, and sometimes it clicks into place and gives you powers.

You usually cannot see a menu or numbers. Other people can’t see yours either. Most of the time you just live your life. When something important changes who you are, you feel the SYSTEM respond.

What is a Class?

A Class is the SYSTEM’s way of describing what kind of person you’ve become, in a practical, power-giving way.

It is not something you choose from a list. You don’t pick Warrior because it looks cool. The SYSTEM forms your class based on:

what you do repeatedly what you’re good at what you value what role you actually fill in life (guard, farmer, scholar, healer) why you do it (your intent)

So a person who trains with a spear might get Spearman, but a person who trains with a spear while protecting a noble might develop something that includes that protective role too.

What does a class give you? A class gives you a small set of powers, like an MMO kit:

usually 2–3 active abilities (things you deliberately do) plus a few passive traits (always-on benefits like instincts, resistances, presence, conditioning)

All powers cost energy (called mana/ki/essence/etc depending on culture). It’s the same resource. The same energy that fuels the body.

How many Classes does one person have?

A person can have:

one main class (your core path) and sometimes a secondary class (a second path that forms if another role becomes central to your life)

Most people never become complicated. They might stay one class forever, or only evolve it.

Adventurers and people with unusual lives are more likely to develop a secondary class, because their lives pull them in multiple strong directions (combat + leadership, healing + religion, scouting + hunting, etc.).

Important: you can’t collect classes like trading cards. The SYSTEM only forms a secondary class if it truly fits your life and identity.

What is an Evolution (Evo)?

An Evolution (often shortened to evo) is when a class upgrades into a more specialized, more advanced version of itself.

Think of it like:

Spearman → (evo) Ironheart Spearman Forester → (evo) Ironoak Forester Healer → (evo) Field Chirurgeon

An evolution happens when you grow in a way that matters: you become more defined, more capable, and more that thing than you were before.

What changes during an evo?

you do not lose abilities your abilities become stronger, broader, more efficient, or gain new ways to apply them you may gain a new ability or passive trait the class name and theme tighten to match who you are now

Evos can happen after a big battle, but also after personal life events if those events reshape the person.

What is a Merge or Combination Class?

A Merge happens when your main class and your secondary class stop being two separate things and become one integrated identity.

Example:

Main class: Spearman Secondary class: Noble Defender (formed from living as a bodyguard, sworn protector, social role)

Merge result: a single combined class with a compressed title, like Ward Lancer (name varies by person/culture)

A merge does not delete anything. It fuses themes and makes your abilities work together better.

Is there XP? Can people grind levels?

No.

There is no visible XP, and the SYSTEM does not reward mindless farming.

You can’t go I killed 400 bandits, pay me a level-up. Repetition only matters if it actually changes you: skill, discipline, identity, purpose, values, role.

The SYSTEM responds to meaningful development, not body counts.

What are Mages in this system?

Mage is not a separate power source. Everyone uses the same energy.

Mages differ because instead of getting a more intuitive sense of reliable abilities, they often get a Domain/Field, like:

Fire, Storm, Glass, Ink, Stone, Silence, etc.

They can shape many spells from that domain, but it takes practice and control. It’s broader, less button-based.

How does a person interact with the SYSTEM if they can’t see it?

They experience it as a personal manifestation, often shaped by culture and belief:

seeing symbols in the mind hearing a phrase or title feeling something click in the chest or breath perceiving patterns in the world for a moment

Religious people call it grace or a god’s touch. Scholars call it essence alignment. Atheists might experience it as blank and clinical. Same event, different interpretation.

One-line summary

You live your life, and when your life shapes you enough, the SYSTEM shapes back: it gives you a class, later it evolves it, and if two life-paths define you, it can merge them into one integrated whole. No XP. No grinding. Just becoming.
