Family & Origins
James Monroe (Father): Quiet, brilliant mechanic. Taught Ava the beauty of precision and patience. Crafted her boots and some of her training gear by hand.
Clara Monroe (Mother): ER nurse with nerves of steel. Grounded, fiercely loving. Inspired Ava’s unshakable sense of responsibility and emotional intelligence.
Jake (Cousin): Protective, military-minded older cousin. Ava’s early combat mentor and emotional anchor. Their bond is strong, their silence often says more than words.
Leila (Cousin): Ava’s older girl-cousin turned social compass. Stylish, sharp, empathetic. She gave Ava her first makeup kit—and her first lesson in reading elite social games.
Deep Memories
The Spark Plug Summer: Helping her dad with an engine rebuild at age 9. Grease-stained, smiling. That summer taught her how systems worked—and how people did too.
The Pact by Firelight: Backyard camping with Jake and Leila—three kids swearing under stars to never lose who they are.
The Freshman Incident: Opening ceremony. She stood up for a shy student and was humiliated—drenched in a thrown drink. The entire room laughed. She didn’t. That moment hardened her presence, not her heart.
The Letters in the Attic: Her grandmother’s notes—filled with strange symbols and veiled warnings. At the time, she thought they were stories. Now she wonders if they were prophecies.
Life at Aurellian
Aurellian Academy is a place of masks and maneuvering. Ava arrived unannounced and unafraid.
As a freshman, she lived in the standard dorms, built her quiet reputation through academic dominance and silent strength. She wasn't loud—but she was never invisible.
Now, sophomore year: A wax-sealed letter changed everything. A phoenix crest. A single line of Latin. An invitation.
House Novera.
She has only just moved into the Novera Estate, a place of marble silence and ancestral weight. No one explains the rules. She’s expected to figure them out.
Roommate & Social Web
Mina Zhao (Roommate): Brilliant coder and black-market informant. Sarcastic, antisocial, fiercely loyal. Shares a dorm suite with Ava. Their bond is unspoken but deep—built on quiet survival and mutual trust.
Theo Laurent: Charming, born into status, more thoughtful than he lets on. He likes provoking Ava—and is surprised when she always gives better than she gets.
Elias Durand: Calculating political legacy. Challenges Ava constantly in class and court. Mutual tension cloaked in civility.
Dr. Isadora Vale: Professor of literature and strategic ethics. Sees a spark in Ava most students never show. Guides her without handing her answers.
Current Status
Living in Novera Estate for the first time—new space, new eyes, new expectations
Academically: Top percentile, especially in theoretical strategy and moral leadership courses
Socially: Known, watched, not yet fully accepted—but unshakable
Training: In advanced-level combat simulations with elite cadets. Suit performance is frequently monitored and flagged for high adaptability
Internally: More determined than ever—but aware that the deeper she climbs, the more she must guard what matters
Ava – A Typical Morning in Novera
"It starts with no sound at all. Not because it's quiet — but because it's Novera. You don’t wake up to alarms here. You wake up when you want… or when you should have already. The difference matters."
The first thing I hear most mornings is laughter, of all things. Deep, echoing, merciless laughter — someone’s already training and someone else is already losing. The metallic crack of a wooden staff against armor plates bounces down the stone halls, followed by a string of curses and an arrogant, “That all you’ve got?”
Welcome to the morning shift.
Sometimes it’s music. Blasting, unfiltered — orchestral or hardcore synth depending on who’s hijacked the tower speakers again. It’s not exactly sanctioned, but that’s the thing about Novera — nothing really is… until someone important decides it is.
I roll out of bed. Mina’s usually already up. She's brushing her hair, humming, flipping through two books and one encrypted message all at once like it’s no big deal. She doesn’t talk much in the mornings. I like that about her.
Outside our door, the halls are already busy.
A guy jogs past with no shirt and half a sword strapped to his back. He’s eating a protein bar and arguing with a girl in combat boots about who beat who last night in the Arena sim. The smell of spiced tea and engine oil drifts from someone’s dorm. A couple of upperclassmen are playing cards on the floor in the common space — one’s bleeding, the other’s smoking, neither of them seem concerned.
I step over a pair of boots in the hallway, hear someone shout “Heads up!” and instinctively duck. A dagger sails past and hits a target board — nailed perfectly in the eye of the chalk-drawn king’s face. The others cheer. One of them winks at me.
"We joke a lot, in Novera. We laugh. Tease. Push. No rules, remember? Except the ones you find out by breaking them. Or worse — by not realizing they were there to begin with."
And then, without warning, the shift happens.
A single footstep down the hall. Quiet. Soft. But I feel it in the back of my neck.
Serel Vaen.
No announcement. No warning. But everyone goes still — like prey catching the scent of a predator.
Voices drop. Jokes vanish. That same hallway? Empty in seconds. The music? Off.
Serel doesn’t say anything. She just walks through the middle of it all with eyes like cold glass, nodding once, maybe, if you’re lucky. When she’s gone, things don’t resume — not right away. The silence lingers. Like it’s listening.
We all get back to our day, eventually.
I grab my training suit from the hook, pull it on piece by piece — body-tight with embedded plating, designed for speed and survival — and head out.
It’s just another morning at Novera.
No alarms. No orders. But every step you take? Someone’s watching. And everything you do?
Counts.
